Every Tuesday night Yeshiva Beth Yehudah is host to its successful Jean and Theodore Weiss Partners in Torah Program. Under the leadership of Rabbi Avraham Cohen, hundreds of people gather in the Study Hall to learn together in pairs for an hour from 8-9 PM. Partners allows participants to probe the Jewish topic of their choice, pairing up every partner with a mentor.

Each week, people gather at Yeshiva Beth Yehudah to listen to lectures being broadcast live from New York, Baltimore, Lakewood, and as far as Jerusalem. Thursday night in Detroit has now become synonymous with Rabbi Yissachar Frand's shiur (lecture) broadcast from Baltimore, as has Rabbi Yisroel Reisman with the Motzei Shabbos (Saturday night) Navi Shiur broadcast from Brooklyn. Women gather together on Sunday mornings to listen to Mrs. Shira Smiles broadcast her lecture series all the way from Israel.

Yeshiva Beth Yehudah conducts regular classes on various Jewish topics. Classes are held at the Yeshiva and other locations throughout the city.

I work as an engineer and paramedic, which means on the days I am working I drive a fire engine and I love it; the job is great! They told me they learn a little and then play some basketball. I have to admit playing basketball is what got me there in the first place!

I remember thinking of the Torah as some dusty old book. As I got older I recognized this is no dusty document; this is a document for the here and now. I am always in the process of learning. I never think I have arrived. There are those who think by virtue of my position as a judge, “well she is learned in the law.” Actually, that is the beginning.

I am an orthopedic surgeon. I can arrange my schedule so that I have an hour to study once a week. I like the format in that it is not structured and we can study what I want to study. I think there is a natural prejudice against Orthodoxy in the non-Orthodox world. Study has torn down some of those myths. I think one of the beauties of this program is that there is a comfort level in the room. Most non-Orthodox Jews are very uncomfortable when they walk into the Orthodox world. You don’t feel that way when you walk into the Yeshiva for Partners in Torah.
